Why Elliott in the Park?

Elliott’s unique program has been shown to promote learning, resulting in more optimal development both physically, cognitively and emotionally. EP’s roots in gymnastics make it ideal for developing core skills in any activity and its use of CDT strengthens a child’s ability to learn in the academic word.

The EP Advantage

EP offers an alterative to the inadequate programs of other early childhood programming by doing what they can not or chose not to offer. Unlike other programs, EP program is tailored to each age group. In addition Elliott’s training as both a gymnast and nationally recognized Gymnastic Instructor and his training as a child therapist allows for further refinement of these age appropriate programs.

Because of this special combination of skills the EP program can be further broken down into three distinct domains of development that are incorporated into all age group programming. These areas consist of physical, cognitive and emotional/social development. Within each age group the ratio of these areas developed is dependant on the age of the child and will change as they mature to ensure that optimal development in each domain.

Within the physical development domain the EP Program utilized the US Gymnastic Federation guidelines for program development across all ages. This type of programming promotes not only gross motor skill development but fine motor skills as well.

EPs incorporation of CDT is our greatest differentiator. Because of Elliott’s past experience as a child therapist EP can offer programming to children as young as 8 weeks. The EP program is capable of accommodating children with special needs such as autism or those that are developmentally delayed. The EP program sees all children as special and therefore having special needs. Older children benefit as well. EP utilizes activities that promote cognitive skills necessary for reading and learning in later formal education settings.

Finally EP believes that it is important to address a child or infants emotional/social development in the programming. Programming is built around key transitional periods, such as separation in a child’s development to appropriately address the needs of this distinct domain.

The Elliott Method

The Elliott method is one that has been refined over 16 years of practice and research. The method is based on a combination of learning theory and cognitive developmental approaches. These approaches can be summarized in the following points:

  • Focus is on building confidence and self awareness through various age appropriate activities
  • Motor skill development is designed to facilitate better cognitive development which has been shown to improve reading and writing
  • Designed to encourage learning through exploration, observation and practice. Development is driven by the child
  • Focus on key transitional events (separation, socialization & independence) for students
  • An emphasis is placed on awareness of words for both children and parents to promote consistent and clear communication
  • Structured for small classes which allow our students to have individual attention and build relationships with teachers. We keep our classes small for optimal development

The children will be exposed to a wide range of activities, socialization and motor development skills. Parents or nannies attending will benefit with a better understanding of early childhood development and receive frequent parenting tips specific to their child.

In addition our ability to conduct classes either within a facility or during the summer classes in one of New York City's parks demonstrates that our methodology and approach is not about having just great apparatus and facilities, but about content and optimal child development.

The EP methodology and approach is a tried and true and has been tested over the last 16 years, one of the many things that separates us from the recent explosion of kids programs on the market today.
