April Oh
As a music therapy major at the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA, April Oh has studied with some of the pioneers in the field of music therapy.
In the spring of 2007, April completed a practicum at the Children’s Hospital in Boston, MA. April then followed up with an internship at Mclean Psychiatric Hospital. At these two facilities, April led music therapy sessions for procedural support, rehabilitation, and to minimize the negative effects of the hospital environment. At the Sherrill House in Jamaica Plain, MA April worked with patients that had Alzheimer’s disease and other neurological disorders. April has also completed a research study involving the relationship between musical preference and personality traits among college students.
In addition April has also benefited from a rich community of opportunities. While studying at Berklee, she has had the privilege of singing, as a vocal principle, in many Berklee recording projects as well as performing in various concerts both in and outside of school. April has had the opportunity to sing background vocals for the Lion King musical promotional event in September of 2003. She was actively involved in the well-known Berklee Gospel Choir. She studied guitar, piano, and percussion from a variety of styles and techniques. Currently, April is in the process of obtaining her degree by completing a music therapy internship, which will be finished in September of 2008.
Through these therapy practicums and volunteer experiences, April has gained awareness of different cultural values, and therapeutic objectives and philosophies. These educational and work experiences have prepared her to teach and instruct here at Elliott in the Park. |
